If you blinked during the summer of 2007, you missed this. SOM was an ensemble show about shrinks and their personal and professional lives, starring the exceptional Lili Taylor and a generally superb cast (did you notice that Kevin Chamberlain was nominated for two Tonys? Once for his Horton–as good as anyone’s Lear.) with guest stars who have been lighting up the stage and screen for years (including the wonderful Courtney B. Vance and the estimable Richard Easton, whom you more often see at Lincoln Center, being a beacon of light). I wrote three episodes and supervised the others. It’s possible that Lifetime will ask us for another 13 episodes but I wouldn’t count on it. If you want to see it, find someone who taped it. Otherwise, just imagine Henry AND Etta James, martinis, Freudian interpretations, some common sense and many human frailties.
If I had to do it again–darker, funnier, sadder and not so much background music.
More about the show, including episode guides and air dates, is available at LifetimeTV.
